General Operatives

Established in 1994 Whitemeadow Furniture Limited is now one of the leading upholstered furniture manufacturers in the UK.  We design, manufacturer and delivery an extensive range of upholstered furniture to our retail customers.  All of our products are handmade to order at our 6 manufacturing sites within a 3-mile radius from our Head Office in Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.

We currently have opportunities across our manufacturing sites located in Sutton in Ashfield, Huthwaite and Kirkby in Ashfield to work as part of a team, contributing to the production of upholstered furniture to the correct specification and quality standards, in a variety of general operative roles including Cushion Filling, Despatch, Goods in and Inspection.

All roles are physically demanding and include physical activities that require considerable use of the whole body, such as lifting, bending, walking and handling of materials.

Successful applicants will have good communication skills, be able work as part of a team and be self-motivated.

In addition, successful applicants will be expected to adhere to the Company’s policies and procedures, including Health & Safety and Quality Standards.

Hours of work are 39 hours per week (Monday to Friday) including ½ hour unpaid lunch break per day, opportunities are available working either days or twilights.

Quality Inspection Co-ordinator – Sutton

Based at Sutton Road, reporting to the Production Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all finished goods are completed to meet the required quality standard before being packaged for despatch.

Main Duties include:

  • Ensuring Inspectors are fully trained in tasks they are required to carry out / responsible for identifying training needs.
  • Evaluating performance of Inspectors with assistance from Production Supervisor.
  • Assigning work to Inspectors.
  • Ensuring production is planned to flow throughout upholstery teams to meet daily production targets and correct paperwork is on all completed items.
  • Carrying out minor repairs when required to ensure items meet loading times.
  • Ensuring correct products are being completed in load order to meet daily production targets.
  • Responsible for communicating daily production requirements to the Cushion Fillers determined by the daily production plan.
  • Ensure cushions are produced in line with furniture.
  • Responsible for the inspection of rejected goods returned, advising on required repairs and approval prior to re-delivery to the Customer.
  • Responsible for chasing any missing / incorrect work direct with the relevant Supervisors / Managers to ensure load points are made.
  • Responsible for communicating any foreseeable difficulties completing daily production targets as soon as possible to the Production Supervisor.
  • Communicate any quality concerns with the Production Supervisor.
  • Responsible for own and others Health & Safety at work.
  • Ensuring good housekeeping is maintained.

 

The successful candidate will possess excellent reading and writing skills, have experience carrying out checks against specifications and be able to pay close attention to detail. They will be motivated and committed as well as showing good team leading skills. Ideally, the candidate will also have experience in Quality Control within the upholstery trade and be knowledgeable in Quality Control Systems. However this is not essential as full training will be given to the successful candidate.

Hours of work: 39 hours per week (Monday to Thursday 7.30am – 4.00pm and Friday 7.30am – 3.00pm including ½ hour unpaid break).

Trainee CAD Technician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee CAD Technician to join the Design & Development Department, based at Sutton Road.

Ideally the candidate will have the following experience and skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and email.
  • Knowledge and experience of Upholstery and preferably cutting.
  • Experience of the Lectra or Gerber cutting formats.
  • The ability to work within a small team in a pro-active environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

The position will require an individual who is competent with computer technology and preferably has knowledge of CAD however relevant training courses and additional support will be available to the successful applicant.

Upholstery Sewing Machinist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Upholstery Sewing Machinist to join the Design & Development Department, based at Sutton Road.

The suitable applicant will operate in a busy and friendly department. The candidate will have experience of Upholstery lockstitch & overlock machining and preferably have experience of sewing leather product.

The position will require good communication skills, working as part of a team, focussed on meeting specific deadlines, record keeping and attention to detail are essential to the role.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for introducing new models into the production areas of our business.

Development experience would be an advantage but training will be given to the suitable applicant.

 

Hours of work: 39 hours per week Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4pm and Friday 7.30am to 3.00pm including ½ hour unpaid lunch.

Development Administrator

Working within the Development Department the Administrator will report to the Office Manager and will predominately be involved in the paramount function of setting up new models in our bespoke Resource Planning System (Winman).

Duties will include:

  • Inputting and updating product codes as and when required.
  • The setting up of new models, including frames, kits, seats, backs, pillows, scatters, feet etc. in new system.
  • Assisting in setting up swatch fabric lists for importing into models as and when required. Also, upkeep of swatch lists as required – removal of discontinued fabrics, addition of new or changed fabrics.
  • Setting up of service parts and sundries.
  • Assisting in the setting up of fabrics on system as and when required.

In addition, the Administrator will assist with the collation of all Fire-Retardant test certification, which involves maintenance of a comprehensive Fire-Retardant certification system for fabrics, foams, fibres, linings etc., recording of customer & supplier test report matrices; requesting new certificates from suppliers when due; and liaising with the Commercial Director for due diligence testing information.

The successful candidate will have excellent computer skills, particularly in Microsoft office, in addition to excellent communications skills both verbal and written.  Applicants must have a flexible approach as the successful candidate will be required to provide holiday cover for others within the department.  In addition, applicants will be required to demonstrate attention to detail as it is vital that the setting up of new models is done accurately.

Hours of work: 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday including ½ hour unpaid lunch

Trainee Administrator (Maternity Cover)

Working within the Development Department the Trainee Administrator will report to the Office Manager and will provide administrative support.

 

This is a varied role, duties will include:

 

  • First point of contact for all incoming calls
  • Collating technical information for the speccing up / setting up of new models.
  • Measure, weigh and photograph all new models
  • Create a variety of specification sheets for in-house /external distribution
  • Deal with customer queries and fill in customer spreadsheets
  • Assist with keeping FR and other test certification up to date
  • Assist with the setting up of new models on the Winman system
  • Other daily administration duties such as filing, typing, scanning, data input etc.

 

The successful candidate will be computer literate, particularly in Microsoft office, have good written and verbal communication skills and must be able to work well as part of a team.  In addition, applicants will be required to demonstrate that they can work on their own initiative, be able to work to deadlines and have good attention to detail.

Hours of work: 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday including ½ hour unpaid lunch

Despatch Co-ordinator – Orchard Way (Twilight Shift)

Based at Orchard Way, reporting to the Production Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Company’s products are delivered to its customers, on time, of the correct specification and that the appropriate paperwork is completed.

Main Duties include:

  • Working with production staff throughout the day to ensure deadlines are met
  • Monitor and assist loading & packaging to help loading/bagging staff carry out their duties correctly using the Company’s ‘Packaging Specification’
  • Responsible for ensuring all relevant paperwork is on the product before loading
  • Ensure that Health & Safety regulations are adhered to
  • Direct the work of loading personnel & oversee related activities
  • Manage inventory of stock and re ordering of items required
  • Responsible for safe storage of completed orders ready for despatch
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports and records where required
  • Assist in developing policies & procedures to improve operation of despatch
  • Investigate & report any despatch/operational discrepancies
  • Responsible for the securing of the premises
  • Ensure prompt delivery of all goods in the warehouse.
  • Able to locate all orders in warehouse and traceability on delivered orders.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience working in a warehouse environment in a team leader capacity, having experience of stock control.  The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, motivated and determined, in additional to having excellent planning and organisational skills and be able to demonstrate good delegation skills.  An awareness of health & safety at work will also prove advantageous.

Hours of work: 39 hours per week (Monday to Thursday 2.30pm – 12.45am including ½ hour unpaid lunch).
