Sewing Apprenticeships

We launched our sewing school in 2019 to help address the challenge of finding the next generation of skilled upholstery sewing machinists. All participants receive on-the-job training in all aspects of sewing fabrics required to make our range of sofas and other furniture.

Working in conjunction with Webs Training Ltd these opportunities provide a combination of both on and off the job training whilst earning national living wage with an opportunity to earn a production related bonus.

At the end of the programme, which is anticipated to take between 12 and 15 months, delegates will know how to and be able to:

  • Cut Fabrics and Components
  • Sewn / Seamed Components by hand and using a variety of machinery: overlock, lockstitch and twin needle
  • Produce templates for use with pattern matched fabrics
  • Measure and cut fabric; sew components to produce customer’s orders: scatters, bolsters, body work and cushions

So far, we have successfully trained 10 recruits, who now all work in our production sites.

We now have six exciting opportunities for individuals with the desire to gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to have a successful career within the furniture industry.

If you would like to apply, please email megan.saint@whitemeadow.com. The closing date is the end of May 2021.
