The recruitment aspect of my role includes the start to finish recruitment and selection process which involves creating and posting job adverts both internally and externally, sifting through applications and sending suitable candidates to the hiring manager for consideration. I then interview candidates with the manager, making notes from the interview so we can refer back to them when determining the applicant’s suitability to the vacancy. Once the successful candidate is selected, I will offer the job to them and issue their offer letter, contract and any other pre-employment documents such as the Company Handbook. Whitemeadow is continually growing which means that recruitment gets very busy!
I also induct new starters on their first day, welcoming them to the company, answering any questions they may have and explaining the policies and procedures here at Whitemeadow. I really enjoy this part of the role as it allows me to get to know new employees and help them to settle in and feel at ease on their first day.
The employment relations aspect of my role involves advising managers on issues of misconduct, as well as attending disciplinary hearings with employees. Occasionally, we also get employee grievances which involves arranging meetings to listen to the grievance and then investigating the issues raised to resolve the complaint.
I also produce monthly reports on recruitment, new starters, leavers and employee turnover. This allows us to analyse the best recruitment methods, the reasons why employees leave and our change in headcount. At the start of every year, I will summarise these in an annual report for the year prior. We use these reports to assess our processes and improve on what we do.
Other things I do in my role include overseeing the employee of the month scheme, keeping employees updated on company updates and news through Workplace and answering day to day queries from both internal and external stakeholders.
I work from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. When I start work, the first thing I do is check my emails to see what work has come in overnight. In my role, I get lots of emails from different people including managers, employees, job applicants and often recruitment agencies too. I will usually have various meetings booked throughout the day which will differ from interviews, inductions and disciplinaries.
I love my role at Whitemeadow as it is very varied, and each day brings a new challenge or opportunity to learn something new. I also enjoy getting to know our employees and working alongside a great team both within the HR department and more widely across the Whitemeadow factories.
